Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. The students must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for pre-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first-generation Americans. It is in the classroom that my four and five year olds first develop their feelings about school, learning how it relates to them. They come in eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They love learning through play especially through art.
My Project
The Covid virus had made teaching very challenging. Pre-k is a very hands on grade level. In order to teach my objectives I need for all my students to have some manipulatives. They also cannot share so each child needs their own manipulatives. The problem I am having is that most of my manipulatives have been put away due to the virus. I need for my at home students to have the same materials that my face to face students have.
My main objective is for my students to learn while having fun.
The supplies I am asking for will help me achieve this goal. The tempera painters will help improve their fine motor skills as well as help them illustrate the sentences and books that they are creating. The buttons, craft sticks and pompoms will be used to help teach sorting, tallying and counting. Tagboard and construction paper will help be used to create cards and books for language arts and math.
These materials will help my students remember this first school year as a year of learning while having fun.
