Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a public school in Elmhurst, Queens that serves a low-income population of over 1700 students. All students qualify for free lunch and many of their families have been hit hard by COVID-19, but still, they remain strong and resilient. They love being part of the diverse community and participating in opportunities that allow them to challenge themselves and each other.

As our students are hardworking, enthusiastic, and curious, we try our best to support and mold them into future leaders by providing opportunities that allow them to grow through multi-sensory ways.

Regardless of race and social-economic status, I want to give all my students space where they can grow and thrive. My proudest and happiest moments are when I look at the beaming faces of my students who realize they can conquer anything as long as they set their minds to it. Big or small, I strive to nurture the creative thinking processes of all my students.

My Project

By having a Cricut in our classroom, it will help our classroom be transformed into a beautiful, homey learning space. This project benefits students in a variety of ways in all of their subjects. I believe it will really help the students that need the hands-on experiences of creating. These hands-on memorable lessons will allow lessons to be more fun and engaging for not only the students this year, but for years to come.

As these students have been living in a community that was the epicenter of COVID, their school year back will be unlike any other that they’ve experienced.

Having a Cricut will help students reacclimate children by using art therapy to focus on the social-emotional needs of my students in my school community.
