My students need Books about Bullying and Art Supplies such as glitter, glue, dough, and more so they can express their feelings through artistic expression.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What is Kindergarten without art supplies? Every Kindergarten student should have the opportunity to experiment with paint, clay, and stamps! Due to the recent budget crisis, art supplies are limited.
I teach 20 eager students in a self contained full day Kindergarten program in a high-need community.
For the majority of my class, English is a second language. In order to enhance lessons and create well rounded learning experiences, I incorporate an art center into our daily routine.
My Project
Many of the students in my class have not had the opportunity to work with art supplies such as stamps, clay, or even crayons before entering my classroom. New Dot paints, stamp pads, and stamps will give them the freedom to create while still learning and mastering the standards! By giving my students the opportunity to learn in a non-stressful environment, it will encourage self-esteem and confidence. It will also encourage communication skills which is really good for my English Language Learners. Once they gain more confidence, they will be less likely to become a victim of bullying.
Giving them the opportunity to learn how to recognize what a bully is and how to deal with it through the recommendations from the book "Bullying In School" my students will be encouraged to be strong leaders.
Art in Kindergarten can open the minds of students more than reading and writing will ever be able to accomplish! It will keep the students interested and excited about going to school.
This project will provide amazing benefits to my students and their language support.
Time for visual art provides opportunities for children to express ideas and is important for developing their sense of self-worth. By funding my project you will provide valuable hands-on, active learning experiences. Art can enhance fine motor skills, encourage socialization, and for the English learners increase time to express ideas.
