This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am leading a Comic Book Workshop enrichment during school hours for students grades 8-11. My group is already using minimal resources such as plain copy paper and regular pencils to illustrate their original jokes, stories, or interpretations of songs and literature, as well as bringing their original characters and storylines onto the page. HoweverRrRrrrr... Real art and crafting supplies would give these students the opportunity to make their comic books POP!

Comic book creation helps students refine narrative skills, thought organization, problem solving, and processing emotions in colorful, funny, healthy, and artistic ways.

I am a current Spanish teacher and former English teacher with a special interest in creative writing and writing as an expression of the soul, complimented by art and crafts. Comic Book Workshop is the enrichment I offer - enrichment being part of my school's curriculum for students grades 7-11.

My group has just started their first project - a mini comic. As their mentor, I intend to compile student work make a small library of comics that is easily reproduced for students to display, take home, and share with friends, family and classmates.

The supplies I am requesting your kind donations for are to give these children the experience of the revolutionary power of DIY art projects. Vibrant paper is much more interesting than white printer paper, and shaping scissors will allow students to create unique covers or add personal, 3D touches to their comic books. We do not have proper cutting tools, so a guillotine would save us time and effort! The punch tool and the ribbons will make the finished so much more beautiful with hand made details than plain folding and stapling. And most importantly, these artists need Dark Pens. Please consider investing in these young artists, writers and DIYers!
