My Students
My students are mathletes in training and it is my goal to show students that math is not only important in their lives but can be fun as well. With the new common core curriculum, my students have learned to embrace the struggle and enjoy learning the various concepts in math.
I have a very diverse group of students.
I teach two different types of classes; one 8th grade level math course and two 8th grade Algebra course. They have varying levels of math comprehension but are hard workers. Not only are my students diverse in their ethnic backgrounds but also diverse in their socioeconomic statuses.
My Project
The materials requested in this project are for several upcoming projects that my students will complete in class.
I love incorporating art into math.
I think it's important for students to see the relevance of what they are learning in math class to their real lives. These various projects we complete in class bring the concepts to life. Imbedding a little bit of artistic flair into it motivates kids to be creative.
One of the projects is the city project where students will build a city based on a set of requirements that integrates their understanding of parallel lines and transversals.
They need construction paper to build their cities and paint to add some designs. In addition to construction paper and paint, some of my students like to construct buildings with cardboard and need some sturdy glue and glue guns to help put them together. We also need colored ink cartridges for our printer.
The various materials that I am requesting for this particular project is to provide my students with the tools to go beyond the box and be creative. I know that a lot of my students want to add as much detail as they can to their projects but are often hindered by lack of materials at home. By requesting things such as colored construction paper and paint, it will allow my students to find the enjoyment of creating these math projects.
