I am requesting a MacBook Air laptop to enhance our classroom experience and better support my students. As a New York City Public School teacher working with approximately 350 students each week, I am committed to providing an engaging and meaningful educational environment.
This year, I’m teaching English as a New Language (ENL) through an innovative program that integrates visual arts, STEM projects, and technology.
Our ENL/Art program combines the study of famous artworks, student-led discussions, and creative projects inspired by their learning. In addition, students explore STEM concepts by designing, building, and experimenting with materials while developing essential skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Incorporating technology into these lessons empowers students to express themselves creatively and explore their potential in both the arts and sciences.
A MacBook Air would be invaluable in supporting these efforts. It would allow me to:
-Capture photos of student artwork or STEM projects using my iPhone or iPad and seamlessly AirDrop them to the laptop for sharing on the school website and with parents via ParentSquare.
-Provide students with opportunities to use the computer for research, digital art projects, and STEM simulations.
-Connect to the classroom Smart Board for projecting interactive lessons that integrate visuals, videos, and apps to enhance learning in our paperless school.
While I have a few computers in the classroom, they are not Apple devices, and Apple technology offers the most efficient and reliable tools for these purposes. My current device is outdated, slow, and running out of memory, limiting my ability to plan lessons, access professional development resources, and teach effectively.
This laptop would not only benefit my current students but also serve as a long-term resource for future classes, expanding the scope of what we can achieve in both art and STEM education.
