Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the most part, my students are lower income, Latino, and focused on day-to-day survival. Most of my students live in the "Monument Corridor" in Concord, an island of poverty, amidst the wealth of the San Francisco Bay Area, and a region known for crime and even gang activity. Furthermore, many of the students who end up in art class are part of the special education program and are used to feeling excluded from the opportunities of the general populace.

My students are mostly from immigrant families, children who have experienced many hardships at a young age, and yet they tend to be honest, caring, and optimistic.

They are worldly wise, but ignorant of many things needed to be successful. They lack confidence in their academic abilities and often don't see college as a viable option or art as a practical pursuit.

My students are humble and open-minded but need encouragement to reach their fullest potential. They deserve to explore their creative potential and learn to appreciate and create beauty in their lives.

My Project

This equipment will replace antiquated infrastructure in our art classroom, allowing students to scan their artwork for their digital portfolios. When students create wonderful art, they deserve the technology to be able to scan and share it with a wider audience. Not only with the computer allow students to research ideas for their projects, but it will allow them to scan and manipulate their work for presentation.

The equipment provided by this project will allow my students to showcase their artwork with 21st century technology.

For our school which has limited resources, this donated infrastructure will make a significant impact and aid the growth of our art program.
