My students need the opportunity to read about art. Many of my students struggle with reading and comprehension skills, but they are interested in Art.
My Art Room is a very busy place with different interest and skill levels coming to class each day. I have many students that love art, some come to class with a love of Art and some have never been introduce to Art until their first class.
My students range from Kindergarten to Eighth grade, our school is a small rural school in an area with a limited worldview.
My school is the center point for our community. Our students have a small view of how the world is and what is available to them. By introducing my students to other cultures through their Art I hope to change that.
My Project
Some of my students love to read and flip through the books I have available in my room. I am trying to build my classroom library to encourage students to read and learn about Art. They will be a wonderful tool for students to use in class and for me to use as a teaching tool. I plan to allow students to check them out to use at home as well as in my class. Some of my students who excel in Art struggle with reading, so I also hope that having more books for them to read will help encourage them to find a love for reading.
Students in my classes will use the books to help broaden their knowledge of Art, while encouraging and improving their reading skills.
Some students struggle with reading or aren't interested in reading, sometimes finding a topic they already love helps their motivation.
