My Project
My goal is to give rural small town children a broadened viewpoint of the world and different cultures as well as a chance for outside the box self expression. One art form that we do not currently have the supplies to create is printmaking, which has been an integral part of the human experience spanning the centuries. This is why I am requesting a class set of Gelli printing plates & tools. These are reusable so they are more cost effective versus standard printing plates.
My students will learn about historical & contemporary artists who used printmaking as an art from (Warhol, Picasso, Durer, Picasso, Rembrandt, Lichtenstein, Karen Lederer, Faviana Rodriguez, and Banksy.
We will discover and dive into the history of printmaking beginning with ancient Chinese printing to Johannes Gutenburg, and lastly, modern print processes & its role in our current society.
Our students are from a tiny rural town called Sautee-Nacoochee, Georgia. Many of our children are of low socioeconomic status and do not have chances to visit museums, take art classes and some have never left the county. We are a Title I school. 51% of students are economically disadvantaged and are on free or reduced lunches. I would like to bring the world of printmaking into our classroom to broaden their life experiences as well as grow their art knowledge and skills that they likely may not receive outside of a school setting.
More than half of students from low‑income households
