Do you remember leaving your classroom to go learn art with the art teacher? I do, but unfortunately my students don't get that experience because our district doesn't have art teachers in the elementary schools. In addition to every other subject I teach my kids art as well.
My students are first graders and at the perfect age to have their imaginations run wild.
It is very important for them to be introduced to art and the different mediums that they can use. They love to get their hands on paint and pastels, but they are also 6-7years old and supplies don't last forever with kids that age. Our PTO is trying to help with the push to have more art in our school, so they are very supportive. We also have a parent on campus that volunteers to come into our classrooms to help teach art lessons on occasion. Our kids just love it! The best part is I can share this cart with fellow teachers in our primary grades so all of our K-2nd students get a chance to experience the wonders of cool art supplies!
My Project
I am asking for a class set of gum erasers to help remove the pencil marks easier, drawing pencils to draw more lightly, sharpies for outlining, watercolors to paint, chalk pastels, oil pastels, and a cart to store these materials for easy accessibility. These tools will allow my students to really capture what they see in their imaginations down on paper while incorporating the different art elements. It will allow them to take pride in their artwork because they will be using some of the tools real artists use. Plus, since the cart is on wheels, fellow teachers can use it for their art lessons as well! The first lesson I will do will have the students' initials on the paper. Students will use the watercolors from the cart to paint their initials (positive space) using warm colors. They will then paint the negative space with cool colors. From here we can move into other projects that focus on other art elements using the oil pastels to create abstract work with a focus on line.
Your donations will help make a difference in all of our students K-2nd.
It will allow students the chance to use mediums for art that they may not have had before. It will allow us a place to organizer and store our supplies so they don't take room in our desks or shoved here or there. They will be in one place with easy access for my students to use during our art lessons. They will get exposure to the mediums and be able to explore the art elements more in depth due to the different supplies.
