Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Last semester, in my "Art of the Game" elective my students were able to use donated materials to make playable prototypes of board and card games that we showcased for the school community in a mini-convention. Along the way we learned art skills as well as working some math into the mix calculating the probability of outcomes in our games. This semester, I'd like to do it again, bigger and better using data based on what materials they gravitated towards to restock.
Materials such as Crayola Air Dry Clay to make their pawns, meeples, and other figures; Vinyl to "color" in large areas and give things a shiny "pop"; and of course Pizza Boxes to serve as game boxes and give them a blank slate to decorate will help their projects come to life.
This is an elective Art class for my students, so I want to make it as fun as possible while still letting them learn about artistic techniques and materials, as well as how to politely critique each other's work! Having better materials than the markers and construction paper I can find in the supply cupboard will help them make something really special, and be able to feel good about their creative work.
