I am a third year teacher entering her first year at a Middle/High School. I'll be teaching 7th-12th grade students with a range of abilities, talent and personalities. I teach in a Title 1 school which reaches children in high level poverty where 99% receive free or reduced lunch. Despite of obstacles our school has continued to improve on Average Yearly Progress as well as provide support to our High School Graduates in attending Post-Secondary Schools. Our school has won the Red Carpet Award and has been nominated as a Blue Ribbon school.
My challenge is provide every opportunity I can for our students to learn in and through the arts. I want my students to become creative thinkers and problem solvers for the world of tomorrow. To do this will take supplies to give them opportunities to explore the arts through manipulating different materials, projects and independent study. Although we receive some funds from the state and the district, BOTH have had major budget cuts affecting this school year. For the art department who looks to build a strong program, this does not bode well for us. We need basic supplies to start our program just as much as the unique and original items.
To get our arts program started off right we need the basic materials such as rulers, erasers, pencil sharpeners and glue. These are things that are fairly simple but essential to almost every art project. Having these basic materials will allow students to create sculptures, sketch designs, layout basic blue prints for their architecture design or drawings as well as create fun collages and sharpen their pencils to keep going. These materials will not just be a one time thing, they are necessary for the whole school year!
Your greatly appreciated generosity in helping to provide these basic materials for my students would really start our year off on the right foot. Through your help students won't be burdened by monetary strain in providing for their own materials or troubled with our lack of funding in the classroom. Our students come from rural and poverty-stricken areas, where as much as parents want to help they only have so much to give. Your help will make it possible for my students to fully participate in class all year round! These are essential items to building a strong and successful art program. My students and I thank you in advance for any and all help you can give!
