This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Arts education aids students in skills needed in the workplace: flexibility, the ability to solve problems and communicate, the ability to learn new skills, to be creative and innovative, and to strive for excellence. Joseph M. Calahan

My students come from a high-poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few.

My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on. Many of my students are English Language Learners that attend a public school in the Los Angeles area. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.

My Project

Creative thinking and reasoning have been identified and highlighted as an essential twenty-first-century skill by many business, education, community and government leaders. I need these art supplies for art time twice a week. I love creating groups where my students work collaboratively to create art projects. As my students grow and develop, introducing them to the idea that the arts involve creative problem solving will teach them how to manage frustration, uncertainty and ambiguity with innovative ideas and solutions. I create a "Bully Free Zone" through the arts, my students can learn how to express their unique identities, while simultaneously developing habits of mind that will help them succeed anywhere, from the playground to the workplace. I will use the notepads so my students can do presentations during art time. They will use the masks and the wiggle eyes to create characters for emotion sensitivity class. They will color with the markers and decorate with pom pons.

My School District can't afford an art teacher so these students are given these experiences until they enter high school.

At this early age their talents can be discovered but unfortunately we cannot find that artist without giving them the time and opportunity to explore. So please help me out!
