My Project

Every year we have students who have an interest in various visual art mediums and artists. Incorporating art into instruction and assessment has long been proven to be beneficial in education. Without an established art program, our school does not often have supplies or time for students to practice or learn different aspects of art education. Myself and teachers across grade levels and subjects have come together to create more opportunities for students to learn about and exercise their artistic interests.

Several teachers and I have decided to offer bi-weekly art lessons in the Library for our students to use their artist talents and express their knowledge through art.

Lessons might feature a particular artist (Jean Michael Basquiat, Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring) or basic art concepts (color theory, shading, still life drawings, figure drawing). All students at our school will be provided the opportunity to participate in the art lessons at least once a month. We anticipate that both students and staff will benefit from the brain-breaks and creative expression these art lessons will provide. This grant asks for the basic supplies necessary to begin these mini-art lessons including pencils, drawing paper, painting supplies, and books about famous artists.
