My students need 1 Classpack of Model Magic, 1 box of craft sticks, 8 acrylic paints, 1 pack of Farber Castell watercolor crayons and 2 packs of Prang Payons crayons.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Art is a universal subject. It can be understood by people from all walks of life no matter what language they speak. I enjoy teaching art to students of immigrant families. They may not have full command of the English language, but they know how to express themselves creatively using art.
My students are enthusiastic artists.
They love to do anything in art from painting and drawing to ceramics and weaving. Many are English language learners, as they have just immigrated to our country. Their parents are eager for their children to succeed in their new home and show a great appreciation for our cultural climate. Many are artistic at home, so the students bring that love of art with them to class.
My Project
My art students and parents love to draw and paint when they get the chance. We are just starting a project approach to parent engagement in our school. The parents will check out an art packet to use at home with their students. They will learn from one another at home and also have a visual poster to show them different techniques. I am planning on having 6 different art kits: painting, drawing, weaving, clay, collage and watercolors. This kit project will help parents talk and create with their students at home. Students get to share what they learn in art class at school. It will help us create a cultural climate of creativity.
We are a Title 1 school and art supplies are not on the priority list.
However to become experienced artists, students need to work with different mediums, tools and techniques. The students' parents will check out art kits to work together with our students at home. Our art kits will also promote a climate of cooperation and collaboration in art. Please consider donating to our creative painting and drawing project for students and their parents.
