Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My sixth grade students' faces shine with delight when I break out art supplies. Creative projects can inspire my young students to make artistic connections between what they read and write and what they can illustrate and imagine. I teach in a high needs community in New York and my school lacks resources.
My students do not have art class and so I try to bring it into my English class as much as possible. Art engages many struggling students when other approaches fail. Intriguing art projects can cause otherwise apathetic students to take a keen interest in school and English class.
The classroom sets of various art projects (printmaking, scratchboard, blank books, blank boxes) and the supplies (glitter glue, markers, scissors and storage units) will improve my students' experience of sixth grade. They will learn about art and create lasting projects will be proud of for years. These resources will fill a hole in the students' educational experience.
For many students art is the key to maintaining their investment in school. Having fun and engaging materials available and integrated into the classroom will make a huge difference for these students. With your help, these art projects can become a reality. You can make it possible to enthrall students, students who have become accustomed to a lack of basic and creative educational materials, with novel and exciting art experiences.
