Help me give my students the art supplies we need, such as scissors and hot glue guns, so we can complete our Art in Science projects!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Maggio's classroom raised $360
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach at a specialized math and science high school in New York City. Students must take an entrance exam even though it is a public school. The students of my school are so inquisitive and have such a drive to learn. This is evident when looking at their full schedules and packed after school activities. These are some of the best and brightest students in all of New York City, and they make going to work every day a JOY!
My Project
Science is full of abstract concepts and big, complicated terms. Students can be overwhelmed with all of the information that is thrown at them in readings and lectures. So I strive to include as many hands-on activities as possible, especially those that allow students to use their creative side.
Creating campaign posters for the most important cell in Cellville, designing and building a Sustainable Building with a functioning Green Roof, creating dozens of information posters and carnival games about environmental issues for our earth day fair - these are the types of activities my students will be able to complete with the materials I am requesting here.
And long after our time together in class is over, these are the activities and the content they will remember. They will remember the "Go Go Golgi" slogan written in calligraphy on their campaign poster. They will remember if their green roof filtered the "Dirty Water" I poured on it or if it collapsed due to poor insulation. They will remember the facts from their Earth Day poster that they presented over and over again to small groups of their peers over the course of the April Fair. And you can help me to give these experiences to my students!
