This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an area with limited resources, including the ability to go to an art museum. Not just because of lack of funding, but also due to the fact that we do not have museums near by.

I have smart and eager students who LOVE art!

My students live in a rural desert community where funding for the arts is limited. Students, within my district, rarely get exposure to the arts. When they have been given the opportunity to learn and express themselves through art my students are engaged in higher level thinking. It is an amazing learning experience for them and an amazing teaching experience for me.

My Project

My students need Picasso and the Girl with a Ponytail, Camille and the Sunflowers, Vincent Van Gogh Art Prints, and Adventures in Modern Painting Prints, to integrate ART into their lives. I have been able to integrate some art projects throughout the school year, but my students' exploration of some of the famous artists has been limited to computer images. I am requesting two books and some replicas of art work. The books and images will help me teach my students at a whole new level. My students will be able to explore the lives of Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso through the literature. They will also have access to big images of their famous pieces of art. Through the use of integrating literature with art, my students will be able to explore different concepts that only art can allow them to have. My students will learn about art styles, artists, theme, and self expression.

Through the use of integration a teacher is able to make connections across subjects and also connect multiple standards.

My students will not just be given the opportunity to explore multiple standards, allowing for higher level thinking, they will be given the opportunity to be an artist for a day. This experience will stay with them for years to come.
