This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine trying to draw a picture of yourself but all the crayons you have are broken. That is a frequent occurrence in my class.

My school is a Title 1 school and most of my students come from very low-income families.

We are the only Pre-K class at our school and my students are a great bunch of kids! They are just starting out and they are so excited to come to school every day. As their teacher, I try to maintain that excitement so that they will always love coming to school. It can be difficult to give the kids a reason to be excited when we have very few materials for them to use and explore. Many of my students don't speak English and have a very difficult time expressing themselves. They get frustrated when nobody can understand what they are trying to say. I am hoping that with more art materials my students will have more outlets to express themselves.

My Project

My students will use these materials to create beautiful works of art. The easel paper will allow them more space to draw and paint on our class easels. The fingerprints could be used to practice writing names. The play-dough could be used to make snakes and ropes or maybe pizzas. The wiggly eyes and feathers might be used for decorating masks. I hope the people-colored crayons will be used to create pictures of my students and their families. The clear cubby boxes will be to hold all of these exciting new materials. There are so many possibilities for how we will use these materials. I hope that my students will use these materials to create anything they can imagine. I don't want to tell my students "No, we can't make those because we don't have the supplies" anymore.

These materials will improve my classroom for this year and beyond.

New art materials will help my students feel free to explore their imaginations without being limited to what we have now. These art materials will help my students learn to better express themselves because they will be able to create exactly what is in their imaginations. This will be so much fun for them and it will help to encourage their love of school.
