This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have grown tremendously as artists in the past three years, but this year, with the help of Donor's Choose, they have grown even more. We got the chance of getting cameras and have been taking pictures every chance we get, and their vision is beautiful!
My students are from a low socio-income background, and most are English language learner.
Getting cameras this year was an eye opener to many, as language wasn't needed to "show". I had students excited and telling me all about what they had seen, and how they had noticed angles and layers all around them, something we were focusing on when taking pictures. They are so eager to learn and share, and so open to new experiences, I am dedicated to provide them with every opportunity. The arts are for them an opportunity to experience the world around them. My school and colleagues are as dedicated as I am in providing a rich Arts education.
My Project
My students have been learning about this new program named Prezi, which is a much cooler version of Power Point; let me tell you it's pretty awesome. This program allows them to create these pages where they can share their work with whomever they want, like within a class, and when they do so, the images that they have created and/or found can be accessed. An iPad would help us because, as you may know, they have the greatest Apps, and make sharing images that much easier. We would also like to learn about movie making and sharing the art making process as part of their Prezi content. By using this new technology, it will put my students ahead of the game as technology is in the forefront of our society. Also, it will give them a chance to record their artwork, and be able to keep a digital file; while their artwork might not survive, the files will. Imagine, how amazing would it be to be able to view most of the artwork that you created as a child, and to see your artistic growth?
This year has been tremendous for my students and for me as an educator.
I grow with them and we teach each other. Technology is so embedded in our everyday lives that we must learn how to use it, or we'll be left in the dust. My students are unfortunately a few paces behind more fortunate children but together we can bridge the gap. Let's take this time to give them the opportunity to rise to the occasion and experience Art in Motion, Literally.
