Art and Literacy-hand in hand.
I am the Art Teacher of a fantastic group of students in grades K-5. Our school houses 5 self-contained Exceptional Children classrooms, who visit the art room each week. Our student population is diverse culturally, as well as economically.
Books provide the visual stimulation to both learn and create. My students are always captivated by books and it is wonderful to see them make connections both inside and outside the classroom. The media specialist and I work closely together to plan lessons that coincide to ensure the students are making connections.
Books inspire me as much as they inspire my students. By creating lessons that reinforce what they read in the book, every student is being reached. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile learners all have a chance to shine!
