Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The role of art in learning helps students develop social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviors like sharing, caring for others, helping, and showing empathy. It also helps students: Develop problem-solving skills, build confidence, improve their health and happiness, stimulate their imaginations, and develop their cognitive skills. This year, I plan to create an art station with easy access to the materials I am requesting.

The goals of this project is for my 4th grade students to embark in imaginative activities with the included art supplies that will hopefully lead to better skills in social interactions and emotional regulation.

The crinkle-cut craft scissors, thermal laminating pouches, construction paper, card stock, colored masking tape, origami kit, VELCRO dots, tempera paint and art paper will lead to improved problem-solving techniques, which will allow them to see the world in new ways, and provide access to creative ways of knowing. The storage containers will provide easy access to students and help me maintain and keep track of the materials. These materials directly connect to my school's ELA curriculum as in each module, students participate in art analysis as a literacy tool as they access visual language of art, using close examination and thoughtful questioning. With these materials, they too can become actual artists, like the artists we are studying throughout the year.

The majority of my students are kinesthetic learners who would rather perform physical activities to learn something, as active participants, instead of passively listening to a lecture or watching a demonstration. That is why the best way of learning something new for them is by having their hands-on those things they are trying to learn. My students are eager learners and would greatly appreciate these items.
