This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students have an interest in Graffiti art but no safe and supportive place to practice the art form and express themselves.

My students come from an under-served, economically depressed neighborhood and deal with gangs and drugs around them every day.

they are very artistic and creative, but lack a space to express themselves. The school is a public school with some after school programs that offer opportunities for sport and other physical activities, but some students would benefit from a chance to have experience with artistic self-expression by creating mural art on campus.

My Project

I am hoping to use the paints and sketchbooks to facilitate the creation of inspirational text-based mural art on our campus that is student-driven and has a positive influence on the entire student body. The murals will also boost school pride and a sense of ownership of the campus by some at-risk students.

This project is important because it will counteract the gangs and drugs that tempt students in this neighborhood.

By providing a safe and supervised place for them to express themselves artistically, many students will flourish and grow as a result.
