Help me give my students Marvel Comics graphic novels for reference and tools for the unit on drawing graphic story boards and comics describing the age of exploration.

My Students
Our students are behaviorally challenged, at-risk youth, many of whom have spent very little time in any sort of typical classroom. Our school is a behavior school, meaning we are the institution where students go after being suspended, expelled or otherwise removed from a traditional school setting before either getting their act together or committing acts egregious enough to land them in jail.
Something in their lives has gone horribly wrong; now they're not only paying for it but trying to learn something new to keep themselves from returning to the juvenile justice system.
These students are still at the early stages of the game where they haven't given up hope for the future. Thus, they see each opportunity to learn a new skill as something that could help turn their lives around.
My Project
Students will use graphic novels for reference and tools for our unit on drawing graphic story boards and comics that depict the age of exploration. Many people learn to read or become passionate about reading, through the comic books we pick in our youth. Readers get engrossed in the story and are able to pick up vocabulary from associating words with images on the page.
My students will study this process of graphic narration from beginning to end using the drawing paper to draw their graphic narration stories on.
They'll use the stories, as reference for "inking" and "pencils," as the industry jargon goes. They'll also see what it was like for the ancient mariners to use a sextant to identify their location on the planet from the light of celestial objects. All these visual elements will inform their visual art to create a story of exploration.
