Art Helps Students Express Their Thoughts

Help me give my students iPads to help them edit and share their photographs so they can learn to express themselves and their writing through art.

My Students

My students are amazing! We are an arts integrated, Title I school in Arizona. My students come from many different backgrounds and I love to incorporate arts into my lessons. The arts engage students in a way that nothing else can. My students range in their artistic abilities, but what matters most is that they put forth amazing effort. I get to have many students come through my door each day who I see have a love for learning. They are curious and fun.

Some of my students even come in at lunch to work on writing projects on their own time!They always bring a smile to my face!

My Project

Throughout the year we create many different art projects that are integrated into our standard curriculum. For example, to teach elements of literature we use poetry. During the unit students then get to create their own slam poetry, which culminates in a Poetry Slam on stage! The kids love the project. To further their understanding of tone and mood, we teach the students some basics of photography. Currently students use their phones or our school Lenovos to take the pictures. They have no editing equipment. We are working on getting some cameras and would then use the iPads to edit the photographs that ultimately end up as the students' background as they are on stage reading their poetry.

This unit integrates the arts and literature that allows the students ultimate control of expressing their thoughts.

Through all this they also learn about elements such as tone, mood, and theme. Please help my students to have an engaging unit that will stay with them for years and years. The use of iPads will greatly increase their ability to engage and express!
