Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project will be used for two celebrations throughout the month of February. Black History and Valentine's Day. Black History Month is coming up in February and what better way to teach students about the historical prominent figures that paved the way for all people today, than through art! Black History Month is an important time in education to teach and elevate the minds of those who are unaware of black people's historical struggles and accomplishments. From writers like James Baldwin and artists like Aaron Douglas, it is important that black history is taught and celebrated, especially in education. With that being said, I would love to be able to give my students a memorable, yet teachable art project to commemorate black history month!
I will also be throwing my students a kindness party to celebrate Valentine's Day this year.
I will use the book "Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch" to read aloud to my students as we are celebrating. The rest of these supplies such as the posca paint pens and sketch books will help my students create hand-made as well as Cricut machine crafts inspired by love and kindness. They are so incredibly excited to be able to use these new items to bring their creations to life! The magnets will be used to display their beautiful artwork around the classroom.
My goal is for my students to learn to trust their ideas, and themselves, and to explore what is possible while sketching on sketchpads, painting, coloring, and making collages, as well as bringing their creativity to the next level with the use of acrylic paint markers. I would love to foster a love for the arts and creativity in my classroom by incorporating art projects at the end of each unit for every subject I teach.
