Help me give my students art supplies including markers, paint, clay and craft materials that they can use to express their emotions and feelings as they return from remote learning to our classroom.
My students attend a public school in Queens, New York. Many are new immigrants. They come from many different countries including China, Korea, Greece, Pakistan, India, Egypt and Columbia. The class is a true melting pot and we love to share our different cultures.
My students do not have access to supplies and manipulatives needed to learn, due to both monetary issues and the impact of COVID-19 on their families.
Many live in small apartments with siblings, parents, grandparents and other relatives. They are trying to do the best they can with what they have. They want to participate and learn, but due to coronavirus, students in class cannot share materials and children that are remote do not have access to materials at home.
I wish that you could see my students learn. They are so excited to use dice and counters to figure out solutions to a math problem. With your help, I will see my students' faces light up as they work with their own sets of materials to solve problems and learn skills through hands-on activities.
My Project
My students are returning to the classroom full time after spending the beginning of first grade in blended learning, and the end of kindergarten learning remotely. The paint, paper, wooden sculpture materials and clay will give them a chance to express their emotions through different art mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture and crafts.
Art is a way for my students to express the emotions in their hearts that have risen during covid-19 and new feelings that they have as they return to class.
During remote learning, I have noticed that my students have very few social interactions. They are worried about their family members and have expressed that they miss school, but are afraid to return. The supplies I am requesting will give them a chance to express themselves through various art forms. They will be able to share their ideas through opportunities for sharing and social interactions that the completed projects will provide. We will culminate the learning with a class project where each child will be able to contribute ideas and work together to complete. At the same time, I will be teaching them about art and various artists.
Please help my class by funding this project! Thank you!
