Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am an alumni of the alternative transfer High School I now work in as the art teacher. I offer classes, internships and programming for students to experiment, play and understand themselves and the world around them through art. However, we often lack access to arts funding and the demand for art supplies is extremely high, as we are a school known for its artistic legacy.
Since the pandemic, the need to support students holistically is higher than ever, and through the arts, students are able to have a safe space to explore their interests and curate their own messaging of who they feel that they truly are.
All of these supplies are in high demand and will be put to powerful use by our students.
These young people are artists now and to support them in this fundamental time is essential so they can develop who they are creatively. Mental health is a serious issue in our society, and our young people need to be activated to heal themselves and each other, which the arts provides a venue for. Support me in providing my students what they need to achieve their dreams and continue building the world that we need for our collective liberation.
