My students need amazing and inspiring art materials like beads, crayons, collage bits, and wire for sculpting to beautify their school and neighborhood.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching all of the second graders in my school this year, and they have never had art with me before as I am the only art teacher in a school of over 1,000 students. What I want to do is bring in as much material as I can to make up for the two years that we didn't work together.
When I walked into the 6 second grade classes that I have, they all broke out in applause and cheers, so excited to finally get art.
My students are the cutest, most enthusiastic group of kids despite their daily life outside of the school. They come from everywhere, and have nothing of their own. Most live in subsidized housing or shelters. Sure, some of them may have nice sneakers, or the latest fade in their hair, and even a tablet of some kind, but at home, they have nothing interactive to play with; no toys, no art supplies, and worst of all, no one who really takes interest in their school life. I want to make art so rich and engaging for them this year that it'll spill into their home life, enticing the adults to pay attention.
My Project
My students need amazing and inspiring art materials like markers, paint, construction paper, craft supplies, beads, crayons, collage bits and wire for sculpting to beautify their school and neighborhood. The supplies that I am asking for are to engage all of the senses that can be used in art except tasting, as we do not eat art materials, even if the brown paint sometimes look like a chocolate milkshake! We will be sculpting, cutting, gluing, lacing, beading, braiding, collaging, mixing, and all together be so creative that the art will be everywhere for all to see and touch. I want to be able to say YES to all that they ask for; imagine that, a place where everything that you may want is available. What will they do with it, the possibilities are endless!!!
Your donations will help my students realize what they imagine, it will help them to create such an exciting dialogue with their parents that everyone will want to join in making art.
What a beautiful world it'll be when the streets are filled with smiling children and colorful artwork peeking out from the windows of the school and their homes!
Please help me in making my vision a reality!
