I want to bring the world of art to my students. I teach high school art in a low-income district, and most of my students have never even been to a museum.
I need DVDs and CD-Roms to use in class as a supplement to my lessons. I want to show my students art from around the world, and to make meaningful connections between art and world history.
I recently received funding through DonorsChoose for a notebook computer and digital projector. In addition to accessing art supplementals through the internet, I want to show DVDs in class about various art techniques and famous artists. Most of my students have never been to a museum, so I want to expose them to famous artists through DVDs. Books are wonderful, but I want to bring art to life for my students.
When students can watch documentaries about particular artists, they can see the people and places and have a better understanding of why different styles developed, and how these styles are interconnected. This in turn will inspire my students to continue to learn about and appreciate art. It will even inspire them to create their own art. DVDs and instructional CD-Roms are just another wonderful tool I want to use in my classroom to stimulate my students' creativity and bring new information to them.
With your help, I can build a media library for my classroom to be used year after year. I have the technology, now I just need the media to use with the technology. Please support this project so my students will have the chance to "travel the world" and experience different cultures, art history, and new techniques they can use in their own artwork.
