Art Critics in the History Classroom Need Document Camera
My students need a document camera to display their comics, visual timelines, political cartoons etc., promoting collaboration and feedback.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Katz's classroom raised $335
This project is fully funded
My Students
Remember working hard on a picture, expressing your interpretation of something for class, and itching to share it with the class, only to realize that an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper can't be seen across the room and only the people next to you saw your cool drawing. A document camera solves that.
Our special admissions school is based on the belief that the arts provide an unequaled opportunity to foster intellectual growth by connecting arts and literacy.
Visual and media literacy skills permeate all subjects at the high school. Reflective teaching and learning are expected in every classroom with an emphasis on building a community of learners to be thinkers and creators, and who are preparing for college or professional careers.
Points of Pride: The Arts Academy was profiled in the Philadelphia Inquirer and gained national recognition in sites such as ASCDÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs SmartBriefs and NCTEÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs Inbox. We are proud of our many accomplishments which include: First place award winner in the One Book, One Philadelphia Graphic Arts Contest; Accolades in the Philadelphia Sketch Club; First place winner in the Philadelphia Young Playwriting monologue contest.
These are just a few of our creative accomplishments.
My Project
In fostering their strengths as artists, I will often give drawings, etc... for homework... My students love to share their thoughts, concerns, creativity and knowledge through art.
It's one thing to be able to write down an answer and complete a worksheet. It's a totally different way of thinking in trying to figure out how to take that answer and communicate it through a visual. This is where a lot of the creative thinking comes into play.
In doing this, I'm playing to the strengths of many of my students, while at the same time challenging many others to think differently. Many times seeing a visual of how one student interpreted a historical concept, is a great way to learn. A document camera would help with this.
This is important for the students to take each and every homework with more importance with the chance it may be shown to the entire class.
I also like the idea of looking at and analyzing essay questions and writings. This will give me a quick way to do this in the classroom .
