Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.
I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.
Our students enjoy and are engaged in artistic activities during school and in after-school programs.
My Project
Throughout the school year we create art for many occasions. The students celebrate artist, cultures, as well as celebrations and events that take place at different times of the year.
In my class we work primarily with clay, but we also compliment our work with other projects that require studio arts supplies.
These art projects are an extension of the work they have done in clay and are displayed together.
The items I am requesting are materials I do not have in the classroom. Having these resources will help to provide students with the experience to work in various art forms.
