Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Coming back from the pandemic has been hard for everyone, students in particular. Since we've been back fully in person, I've been so proud of their commitment, and I really love to reward their creativity, enthusiasm, curiosity, kindness, and improvements! Unfortunately, this can sometimes mean I try to get them fun art themed items as prizes and new materials to try that I cannot obtain through the school vendor to my own financial detriment (it adds up quickly). Last year, items like fun erasers, large stickers, fun pens/pencils, sketchbooks were giveaways that all went over great with learners. I've included items like these as well as some upgrades to our regular classroom use. The document camera will make viewing demonstrations so much easier for students, portfolio bags will enable our AP students to transport works more safely to home and school, lights and lamps will enhance our classroom environment, and the puck cups will help student artists feel like professionals!
My goals for this project are to bring more joy to students in their art learning environment and to help spark and encourage their sense of wonder in their experiences with art class.
I want them to feel appreciated and enjoy coming to their space even more than they already do and to foster a calming setting that also engenders curiosity and creativity. My students give a lot to their art room, volunteering to help maintain materials and tables and add their own work to the walls. Their deep dedication, in spite of a far from perfect educational system and a limited scope of art classes in their small neighborhood school, is my motivation for wanting to reward all the motivation they build in themselves and me.
