I teach kindergarten in a very low income area. Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced lunches. Many of my students live with grandparents, great-grandparents, or other extended family members.
Our school system continues to face budget cuts everyday.
As a result of these budget cuts, we will receive very little if any teacher fee money this year. With budget cuts this big, art is not considered a priority. However, at this age, art is a priority. It allows my students to express themselves creatively. This year my students have really shown an interest in many different art activities. Even though I spend much of my own money, I can't provide everything that they need to enjoy learning.
My Project
My students need many different art supplies including several different art kits, wiggly eyes, and sentence strips. These art materials allow my students to be creative and artistic. With so many academic challenges everyday,it is so nice to be able to pull out the paint and construction paper, and just have fun creating new things.
My students love making new things that go along with our studies or holidays.
They get so excited every time that we pull out the art supplies. Your help will ensure that my students will be able to continue engaging in different art activities. Please don't let art become a thing of the past. We need Art!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
