Art and Sensory Tools for a Calm and Creative Classroom

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have the privilege of working with a group of incredibly creative and resilient students. They may face challenges with communication, sensory processing, and emotional regulation, but they constantly amaze me with their determination and unique perspectives. My students thrive when they have opportunities to express themselves creatively and when they have access to sensory tools that help them manage their emotions and stress.
The art supplies I’m requesting will provide my students with an outlet for self-expression.
Many of them struggle to communicate their feelings verbally, but through painting, drawing, and other forms of art, they can share their thoughts and emotions in a way that feels safe and empowering. Art can also be therapeutic, giving my students a calming activity that helps them process emotions and reduce anxiety.
The sensory items—like fidget toys, textured objects, and manipulatives—will be used to help my students regulate their emotions during moments of sensory overload. These items provide tactile stimulation, which can be very soothing and help them refocus on learning after experiencing stress or frustration.
My goal for this project is to create a classroom environment that nurtures both my students' mental health and their academic growth. By providing them with these tools, I hope to help them feel more secure, less anxious, and better able to engage in learning.
What makes my students special is their incredible strength and individuality. They face challenges that can make school difficult, but they never give up. They bring joy, creativity, and determination to our classroom, and with the right supports, I know they can thrive. This project will give them the resources they need to grow emotionally and academically.
