This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want my students to really understand the topics presented to them, and the only way I can do this is by making sure my science lessons are hands-on.

I am a science teacher in a diverse urban school.

I see a total of 150 amazing kids every day. I want my students to become skilled, passionate, and habitual lifelong learners. I want my students to enjoy science. Most of my students have had limited experience with hands-on science because of the lack of resources we have.

My Project

For the final semester of the year, I have a vision of integrating science and art. For example, students will create a simple sculpture that when a direct air current is applied to a metallic paper sail, when they blow on it the sculpture, the blades will turn gently. They will construct high-rise buildings from paper straws to help review the scientific method. They will make Prairie-Style Stained Glass Clings after learning about the prairie. Lastly, they will create stilt houses which allow people to live in areas that have very little dry land. I am requesting a variety of art materials to make science come alive. I am also requesting a SMART board to project various dry areas, architecture designs, watch prairie movies, etc. I envision using the SMART Board to allow all students to participate. The SMART Board will make science and art interactive and fun. It will allow students to move around, disappear, and flip students using art and science.

Your help will ensure that my students have the opportunity to truly understand science.

With these resources, students will begin to enjoy science and want to learn more about the subject matter. The SMART board will allow for students to be interactive. Students will be able to write directly on any document, thus allowing them to understand various science and art concepts.
