This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have been home for over 1 month now, and it seems like ages. Many students are limited in their ability to consistently access technology to communicate with me, let alone complete any assignments online. Some are able to participate in learning and have put forth incredible effort. For them, this time away has been socially difficult because they are without their friends. Some students have parents who are essential workers and are not available to truly home-school their child. Even those students who have support are struggling to learn new material in math, science, and writing.
My students miss being together most of all!
I want to wave a magic wand, erase COVID, and bring a sense of normalcy back to their lives.
My Project
This distance learning project uses art supplies such as watercolor, paper, journals, sketching pencils, and a recorder. Students will use these materials to make creative connections with their online studies and have enough left over to better enjoy their time in quarantine.
Students will use the watercolor to create a story, complete with characters, setting, problem / conflict, theme and resolution.
They can use the recorder to play music to the tone of their story such as sad, happy, or excited. These artistic outlets will allow students a place to lay out their emotions. Potentially, some students will share their masterpieces with their teacher and peers through online communication such as video recording or live stream through Google Meet.
