“My contention is that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.”~ Sir Ken Robinson.
Our elementary public school is full of excited little people who can't wait to create.
We are always looking for new and exciting ways to keep their creativity challenged and stimulated.
I look for ways to expand my curriculum, engage my learners, and energize the classroom by integrating technology in innovative and collaborative ways.
I am trying to expand my art program by including media arts opportunities into our hands-on art-making experiences that give students a voice, a chance to take risks, to develop lasting skills, and grow their love for learning.
Mathematicians have designed murals that use the black dominoes with white dots to create large scale murals. The plans for these murals are available for students to collaboratively transform boxes of dominoes into the Mona Lisa or the face of the Statue of Liberty.
This project will give students a chance to use their math skills to carefully place the dominoes into configurations prescribed in the plans to make a large scale piece of art.
Twenty-four boxes of dominoes will give one whole grade level this experience in my art room next school year. I’m looking forward to seeing my young artists take on this challenge as they make art with unconventional materials.
