Art And Literacy Connect: A Library For The Art Room

My students need books about Art as a resource in the art room. This includes books about creating art as well as about famous artists.

My Students

My students come to art class excited to expand their horizons, learn about art, and to create. I strive to treat them as if they are accomplished artists, and their work reflects this attitude.

Our school has a unique teaching model focusing on life-long learning, with multi-age classrooms and adult mentors.

Students master each learning benchmark before moving to the next level. Our school is part of a high-performing network of schools in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Our students come from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. We receive free breakfast and lunch and school-wide Title I services.

My Project

Reading may be the most important part of education. It is not the first thing we think about with art, but it should be an integral part of every aspect of school. With this project, I will obtain a collection of quality art-related books in my classroom.

I would like to have a collection of new books related to art: picture books, reference books, and artist books, on different reading levels.

This will be a fabulous resource not only for me for a basis of lessons, but for the students to peruse at their leisure. Books such as Mouse Paint, Iggy Peck and Tar Beach. In the past, I have gone to the school library and to the local library to get books to use for a specific lesson. I will continue to do that but will now have tremendous addition to my classroom: a library.
