My Students
My 7th grade middle school students are from urban, rural, and suburban areas. Our students filter into middle school from three schools. We spend some time getting to know each other so we can become a community of learners. I have language arts and social studies classes that have a wide range of learners. Some students may be in our gifted program, learning support program, or life skills program. However, I find that all students enjoy using technology. Sharing technology and learning from each other helps us bond together as a class.
My Project
In our 7th grade geography class students will learn about the world around them. Students will work on projects for each unit of study. For example, when we study the Nile, students make a map of the region to demonstrate how the river affects the lives of the people there. For this project, we need Sharpie markers, pencils, pens, tape, and paper. Completing projects is much more engaging to students than always just taking a test or writing an essay. However, in order to do this, we need a little help in getting some of the supplies. Also, we will create an interactive student notebook of student work. Having real notebooks instead of stapled packets would allow students to have a book to refer to. The sticky poster paper would allow students to make posters and other projects that we could display in the hallway. A supply of pencils and pens will also allow students to write in their notebooks and use on class work.
