Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is filled with vibrant diversity—over 160 of our students come from countries other than the United States. To honor and learn from this diversity, we are hosting a Multicultural Day where students will “travel” from country to country without leaving the school.
Each student will start their journey by picking up a mini “suitcase” at baggage claim, which will be filled with candy (as their “travel snacks”).
They’ll also receive a personalized passport that they will get stamped as they visit different country booths. Each booth will be hosted by students from that country, sharing language, facts, traditions, and small treats or visuals to bring their culture to life.
I want this event to be fun, educational, and inclusive without placing financial strain on our students’ families, most of whom are from low-income households. The items I am asking for—candy, suitcases, and passports will allow all 750–800 students to fully engage in this experience, celebrate their classmates’ backgrounds, and develop global awareness, empathy, and pride in their community.
