My Project
Middle school students are a special breed. The amount of growth that we see in them both socially and academically, from 6th to 8th Grade, is amazing. Having said that, they live in an era with a growing emphasis on literacy and mathematics to satisfy standardized test scores. It is my sincere hope that, with standardized tests and a minimal and outdated amount of Social Studies curriculum provided to them, the passion for Social Studies and learning about various cultures around the world does not somehow get lost in the shuffle.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, our rural community was shut down for a period of time, while we came to terms with how to approach this disease.
Students suffered socially but also may have lost some perspective about the world around them, as they sat and worked from Chromebooks at home. It is my hope that with these atlas sets, our Social Studies teachers will have one more resource to teach our rural students about the amazing place, that is the world around them. Hopefully, we can some basic ongoing Social Studies concerns, like mixing up cities and states, or countries and continents. Students will learn about a variety of places and cultures around the world. Thank you for considering my cause!
