My students need science kits, science goggles, microscopes, solar energy science projects and math/science puzzles and games to enhance their learning experiences.
"Get ready to learn!" is what I always tell my 5th-grade students every day, as a reminder of what they are here for. I start the day with song and dance and have my students pumped up and excited about the day ahead in Mrs. Blackshear's science class. I believe in motivation and engagement.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and with that come an array of abilities, skills and talents.
Not all are scientifically inclined, but I would say that all can learn and benefit from science--once they are motivated and engaged in the process.
My school has a high number of students who are ESOL, ELL and there are a few who are SPED and gifted. Even though we have to cater for and adapt to such a wide range of learning needs, we know that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology (and teachers who care). At the moment, I am spearheading an incentive program to encourage students to work on their math, reading and science skills on their own at home, using a computer program called i-Ready.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will not only assist my students in class but also serve as an incentive as I will be giving deserving students "prizes" for successfully completing the most i-Ready on-line assignments. The mini solar science projects and games would be given to the "winners" that are announced. The goggles and other safety equipment will be used for projects where protection is necessary. We need the safety equipment, in order to expand what we can do in the science lab.
The science project sets will assist my students in terms of preparing for upcoming school and district science fairs. We want to explore solar energy and expand from the traditional projects done before.
Your donations will improve my classroom as it will expose my students further in the areas of robotics and solar energy.
With the safety equipment and microscopes, we can focus on more intricate and complex science projects. My students will have more hands-on experience in my classroom as their science books will come alive when we do more labs, thanks to your generosity.
