My Students

How many parents still find the time to read to their children every day? If it's not 100% then it certainly isn't enough! Children need to hear stories every day. This builds their background knowledge, enhances their vocabulary, and helps their fluency.

The students I work with have limited experiences and not a lot of literature in their homes.

With English as their second language, parents are not always able to read them stories every night, and sometimes they're working at night to provide for their family. They need the opportunity to hear stories and to hear a lot of them. I love to read to the students every chance I get, but time is an issue. A listening center is a perfect place for students to listen to wonderful stories while I work with other students on varying needs.

My Project

I am requesting a listening center to use with the students I work with. A listening center will allow them to help stories in a fluent voice, hear expression in the stories, build background knowledge and increase their listening vocabulary. Being able to listening, visualize, and understand are all essential skills that helps student improve their reading ability.

Literacy skills are so important for young readers.

Listening to stories and being read to is one of the most important things we can do to help children love books and learn to read. Please help me share lots of stories with the students through the use of a listening center.
