This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine not knowing that your words can actually create a story! My students have a lot to share; however, they have not made the connection that the words they speak are actually words they can write to share an experience.
My students receive special education services in a self-contained classroom located in a Title 1 school.
Many are speech and language impaired or learning disabled. They are below grade level in all academic areas, especially literacy. It is my job to help them connect their words to literacy.
My Project
My students will use the chart paper to see their words come to life. I will model how to write their thoughts and they will notice that they can use the sounds they hear to write words, sentences, paragraphs,and then stories. I will hang the charts around the room for future use.
The chart paper will help me turn my students into better readers and writers.
Watching them have an "Aha" moment, is exciting. They will be able to share their thoughts, feelings and ideas with the school community and their families.
