Arduino, Our Dream-o: Computer Programming for Kids!

My students need 8 Arduino micro-controller kits and sensors so they can learn to build and program a micro-controller and increase their interest in STEM careers!

My Students

By the end of the school year, I want my students to explore more engineering and technology (STEM) than current school budgets can provide. Today's students need exciting and innovative activities to help them learn 21st Century Skills and be prepared for the future workforce.

I have 175 Physical Science students with a thirst for knowledge.

They are a very diverse group of young teenagers, with varied socioeconomic backgrounds, with interests, hopes and dreams. They constantly amaze me with their work ethic, creativity and love of learning. We have students of all levels- from Accelerated to Special Needs. Through science, we incorporate language and math, helping all kids to be proficient in ELA, Math AND Science!

My Project

The Arduino micro-controllers can sense and control more of the physical world than the computer you are reading this on. It is an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple micro-controller board. Students will design and program them in many different ways. There are sensors for temperature, light, motion, obstacle avoidance and more. After learning the basics of circuitry , students will learn to code the Arduino to perform various tasks. This is a great way to incorporate CCSS for English and Math in the the Science Curriculum.

Now, more than ever before, we need to prepare students for the real world.

Studies anticipate a dire shortage of students preparing for STEM careers. We need to get them excited now about future possibilities. This project will help students learn about circuits and programming computers to do all sorts of amazing things.
