My students need giant geometric shapes, hands-on 3-D shapes, Smart board shape practice, match-up shapes, and construction set to learn about the world around them.
In our classroom, we work hard to make our learning relevant to our everyday life. My students are very hands-on learners. Geometry manipulatives are important to helping the class relate the learning to real life experiences.
My school is in a progressively growing rural community with total enrollment in pre-K through 5th grade of a little over 550 students.
The town population is approximately 70,000, with 17 elementary schools in the district. The diversity at our school comes from the economic levels with approximately 45% of our students receiving free and reduced lunches. I teach in a self-contained second grade classroom. I have twenty-five students.
My Project
My students will use these math manipulatives in our math labs for our Geometry Unit. These supplies will help to make our learning more relevant and hands-on. It will also promote collaboration and team work. The supplies will help to support the common core standards that is being taught in the classroom by engaging the kids in their learning. It also helps to relate how geometry impacts everything around us including architecture and the economy.
Your donation will help my students to truly understand how geometry, engineering, and architecture.
These areas of study not only impact our daily lives but also our local, national, and global economics.
