AR Economics in a Digital Classroom

My Students

Did you know Arkansas was the only diamond producing state in the whole U.S.? It is also one of the largest rice producers in the nation. My students live in a region of the U.S. rich in resources. By giving them the means to explore and research it, they can learn to appreciate what they have.

My students are first graders, curious of the world around them and hungry for knowledge.

What better way to teach them about their community than through the use of technology? Using technology to research the financial and economic resources of their communities, my students can learn to appreciate and accept their future roles as valuable members of the community through hands-on investigation and research of their state's financial and economic resources. As part of the Arkansas history curriculum, these two concepts are important for young learners to understand as they begin to learn to use and appreciate the value of money and natural resources.

My Project

I am asking for a new, up-to-date, Dell Inspiron All-in-One computer for my classroom. My students will be able to use this technology to gain access to research about the financial and economic resources in our state during an upcoming unit on Arkansas. During this unit, we plan to not only research Arkansas' resources, but also make a connection to how we use them to thrive financially, economically, and physically.

Donations toward this project will impact my high-poverty students greatly.

Many do not have the means to explore outside of their immediate communities. Believe it or not, some of my students have never been out of the county much less visited the beautiful lakes, farms, and hills of western Arkansas. Having this new computer in my classroom will give them Arkansas at their fingertips! What a joy it will be to see my students begin to appreciate a new device and learn about their state.
