This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items I'm requesting will make a difference in my students' learning by improving their ability to be understood by teachers, peers, and family members. These books, cards, and other resources will provide my students with tangible and visually interesting supports as they learn to produce their target sounds.
Most students who qualify for speech and language services are understood less than 75% throughout their school day.
My goal with these materials is to help increase the participation and overall progress of my students so that they can be understood and develop confidence across their communicative settings. This will ultimately help them as they grow and enter the professional field as it will foster their image as a communicator. Ultimately, these supports will help cultivate the confidence and communication skills necessary for our students not just now, but throughout their educational, professional, and personal endeavors.
Many of our students come from diverse backgrounds (i.e., culturally, linguistically, socio-economically) and speak more than one language. This makes them unique as they have had a variety of experiences that have shaped/will shape them into who will they will become. Seeing that these students have come from diverse backgrounds, these materials will nurture their communication across languages and their diverse backgrounds.
