This is the first year in a long time that our school has offered AP Language and Composition. My AP Lang students are thriving. They have already grown in their writing and argumentative skills, but because we have not taught the course before, we don't have as many resources available.
While we have a wonderful fiction library, AP Language and Composition focuses on nonfiction texts, and we have very few nonfiction texts available for students.
These texts in particular would be used in a unit regarding science, technology, and ethics. The AP test often gives students a science related topic to discuss, and these texts will help broaden their common knowledge which will help them as they write argument essays on random topics. By receiving these books, we would add to our nonfiction library and give students a reading experience that will help prepare them for the AP Language exam but also expose them to topics and ideas that they may not have heard of before.
